Partido State University (ParSU) hosts the Innovative Research Mentoring Program in partnership with the Philippine-Japan Association for Kuroshio Science Promotion, Inc. (PHILJAPKUS).ย 

This initiative brings together distinguished experts from government agencies and top universities to guide and mentor the ParSU faculty in advancing innovative research.ย 

On its first wave from December 10, 2024, to December 12, 2024, it will focus on Concept Note-Making and One-on-One Mentoring Sessions that will be discussed by Dr. Alvin Monotilla from the University of San Carlos and Dr. Emma Ballad from the Department of Agriculture, BFAR Region II respectively.ย 

Continuing the goal of advancement, the second wave from December 17, 2024 to December 19, 2024 will feature more inspiring mentors, which includes guests from Bicol University, namely Dr. Renan Bobiles and Dr. Katrina Canon, guests from Batangas State University, namely Dr. Jayvee Saco, Dr. Jonel Corral, and Dr. Joshua Vacarizas, Dr. Donna Guarte-Valida from Visayas State University, and Dr. Kristian Aldea from Catanduanes State University. Further, Dr. Gyo Itani of the Kochi University and Dr. Yumi Henmi of the Kyoto University of Japan will join the mentoring program via Zoom.ย 

This program includes one-on-one consultations tailored to participantsโ€™ concept notes or draft proposals, research collaborations, and dynamic mentoring sessions. The event will culminate with a message of commitment from the faculty participants, affirming their dedication to advancing research excellence.ย

Bridging the past and present of Filipino-Chinese relations, Partido State University (ParSU) hosts the 2024 International Conference on Philippine Studies with the theme "Filipino-Chinese Histories and Discourses Through Multi-Disciplinary Lenses." bringing together scholars from diverse fields to explore the rich and multifaceted relationship between the Philippines and China.

ย In collaboration with the Center for Philippine Studies, Jinan University, this conference recognizes the Filipino-Chinese histories as an integral part of the nation's story. It also allows researchers to foster new academic collaborations and deepen understanding in a field that continues to evolve.ย 

Day 1 focuses on the historical narratives shaping Filipino-Chinese identities, which include Unearthing the Past: Tracing Filipino-Chinese Histories Through Archival Treasure by Dr. Francis M. Navarro, Commissioner, National Historical Commission of the Philippines, The Changing Identity of Chinese Filipinos Over the Past Ten Years by Dr. Fan Dai of Jinan University, People's Republic of China, The 18th Century Sino-Dutch Dispute in Lasern by Dr. Daya Negri Wijaya from Indonesia, Philippines-China Economic Relations: Reflections on Strategic Development and Resilience by Dr. Tina S. Clemente, University of the Philippines, and Archaeology of Pre-Colonial Trade in the Philippines by Dr. Eusebio Dizon, University of the Philippines.ย 

In his welcome remarks, ParSU President Arnel B. Zarcedo, EDEL, encouraged the participants to engage wholeheartedly, stating that this conference is more than just a venue for dialogue. Instead, it is a space where friendships are formed, partnerships are strengthened, and new ideas are born. "Let us honor our past, embrace our present, and shape a future where our shared histories inspire hope, unity, and progress." he ended.ย 

Delving deeper into Filipino-Chinese discourse, Day 2 will feature parallel migration, cultural integration, health, language, and sustainability sessions. These sessions will explore how Filipino-Chinese communities have adapted and integrated culturally over centuries. The day will conclude with plenary lecture on XTIANO SANGLEY: Catholic Conversion and Chinese Integration to Early Colonial Philippine Society by Dr. Danilo Gerona, Partido State University.ย 

Whether examining archives, studying contemporary issues, or exploring cultural practices, the 2024 International Conference on Philippine Studies is essential for fostering dialogue, understanding, and research in Filipino-Chinese histories.
By encouraging cross-disciplinary research, the conference invites scholars and students alike to view Filipino-Chinese relations through the lenses of history, culture, economics, and identity.ย 

RDE hosts 2024 Research and Extension In-House Review

To monitor the status and progress of completed and on-going research and extension projects of Partido State University, the Research and Extension Division held the 2024 Research Agency In-House Review and the 10th Extension Agency In-House Review via Zoom this Saturday, November 30, 2024. This event highlighted the contributions of our faculty researchers and extensionists in advancing knowledge and innovative ideas. ย 

The opening program began at 9:15 AM with an invocation, followed by the Philippine National Anthem. Dr. Raul G. Bradecina, the Vice President for Research, Extension, and Knowledge Management, delivered the welcome remarks. In his remarks, he highlighted the challenge of meeting expectations and the importance of enhancing knowledge products to support sustainable development, stressing the necessity for evaluating the research works to promote quality outputs in the university. Dr. Arnel B. Zarcedo also gave his message where he commended the achievements of the faculty researchers and extensionists as well as their collaborative efforts in research and development.ย 

Ms. Luisa M. Lanciso, the OIC Director of Extension and Community Services, presented the participants and the rationale and mechanics of the In-House Review. The event also included a formal introduction of the panel of evaluators by Prof. Patricia M. Candelaria, OIC Director of the Research and Development Division.ย 

The panel of evaluators included notable figures such as Mr. Erwin E. Torres from Bicol University; Dr. Plutomeo M. Nieves from the University of Santo Tomas; Dr. Celerino B. Llesol from Central Bicol State University of Agriculture; Dr. Francisco A. Datar from the University of the Philippines Diliman; and Ms. Maria Salvacion A. Esmalla from the University of Santo Tomas; and Dr. Emma Ballad from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Regional Office II.ย 

The Breakout session was divided into three categories namely: the Economics Category, the Drug Discovery/Product Development, and the Agriculture/Fisheries/Extension Category. There were 12 papers which were presented in the Economics Category; two for drug discovery/product development; and 4 for Agriculture/Fisheries/Extension Category. The session involved a 10-minute presentation of participants and 10-minute Q and A Session.ย 

In the afternoon, the closing program commenced at 2:29 pm featuring the awarding of certificates to the evaluators and recognition of winners in various categories. The winners were the following:

ParSU Partners with P2A Research Network for Collaborative Research and Educational Advancement

December 5, 2024 | To establish the general principles of mutual collaboration within the Passage to ASEAN ย (P2A) Research Network, Partido State University (ParSU) signs the Framework of Cooperation (FOC) during the 8th Annual General Assembly Training Workshop in Manila, Philippines.

Under this, both parties will collaborate to identify and pursue areas of mutual research interest, thus opening doors for joint research projects and allowing ParSU faculty and researchers to tap into broader networks and resources within the P2A Research Network to elevate the quality of academic output at ParSU significantly.

More so, institutions agreed to support and encourage joint research projects, faculty and researcher exchange programs, collaborative grant applications, co-organization of conferences and workshops, establishing joint publications, development of joint academic programs, student research internships, collaborative curriculum design, database and resource sharing, and capacity building training for researchers.

With the collective aim of fostering academic excellence, innovation, and knowledge exchange, this partnership will benefit the university's faculty and students and advance higher education and research across the ASEAN region. As ParSU deepens its collaboration within the P2A Research Network, it will continue to build on its mission to provide academic excellence and develop globally competent and innovative graduates.

The MOU signing was attended by University Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Michael A. Clores and Vice President for Research, Extension & Knowledge Management Dr. Raul G. Bradecina.

P2A was founded in 2012 to unite higher education institutions in ASEAN countries to promote cultural appreciation and workforce education amongst its youth.

ParSU Shines at 2024 BFHE Conference and General Assembly

Sorsogon, Philippines โ€“ The Bikol Foundation for Higher Education (BFHE) held the 2024 Conference and General Assembly on August 13-14 at Sorsogon State University. This annual event gathered leaders and educators from higher education institutions across the Bicol Region, including SUCs, LUCs, and private colleges and universities.

This year's theme-"Bicol HEIs: Shaping the future together in the era of social media and AI," assessed the challenges and opportunities for Bicol higher education institutions amid rapid technological advancement.

The conference offered a valuable platform for exchanging best practices across instruction, research, extension, and production. On the second day, the Research, Development, and Extension Symposium showcased presentations from faculty and graduate students, highlighting innovations and collaborative initiatives aimed at driving continuous improvements in their fields.

The symposium highlighted several thematic areas: Climate Change and Biodiversity, Tourism and Culture, Economic Enterprise, Development, and Special Projects, Education, Innovation, and Future Outlooks, Social Realities.

Faculty from Partido State University presented nine research papers in various thematic areas and garnered multiple best paper awards, highlighting the university's commitment to research and education excellence.







The BFHE Conference not only fostered collaboration among Bicol HEIs but also emphasized the importance of adapting to the evolving educational landscape shaped by social media and artificial intelligence. As the event concluded, attendees left with renewed motivation to implement innovative practices that will benefit the region's higher education system.

The collective efforts of Bicol HEIs continue to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of education, ensuring that the region remains responsive to both local and global challenges.
