In pursuit of stronger collaborations for sustainable fisheries development, Partido State University (ParSU) hosted the 4th Quarter Lagonoy Gulf Integrated Fishery and Aquatic Resources Management Council (IFARMC) Meeting on November 7, 2025, at the RDE Hall.
The event gathered representatives from the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) โ Philippines, WWF โ Malaysia, and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Regional Office V, led by Regional Fisheries Training and Fisherfolk Coordination Division Chief Joelle M. Benavides and Lagonoy Gulf IFARMC Chair Arnel Boholst.ย
The agenda featured updates on the Collaborative Access to Tracking Community Handling of Fisheries Information, Science, and Harvest (CATCHFISH) system, as well as end-user feedback, a presentation of FMAI research and results, updates on fisheries registration and licensing, an update from the IFARMC representative, and an interactive session with Malaysian delegates.ย
In his message of support, ParSU President Dr. Arnel B. Zarcedo emphasized the importance of collective action, stating, โTogether, we form a powerful alliance, anchored on the belief that sustainability is not just a concept, but a commitment to the generations of fishers who will cast their nets long after we are gone.โ
ย Developed by ParSU College of Engineering and Computational Sciences faculty and personnel, CATCHFISH is an ICT-based tool designed to optimize fishing data, promote sustainable practices, and advance fisheries development.ย
The Malaysian delegation included Siti Zainab Omar, Muhammad Rozaimyie Sedin, Mohd Fadzliee Asmat, Aarston Friend Dickson, Mohammad Rizal Socradji, Musli Sappan, Mohammad Khairul Ismail, Normina Hussin, Abd Lajid Ammin, Raidah Mohd Saruji, Dr. Muhammad Naimullah, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Hanafi Idris. Participants also came from coastal municipalities across the Lagonoy Gulf, including Tiwi, Rapu-Rapu, Bacacay, Malilipot, Tabaco, and Malinao (Albay); Sagรฑay, Tigaon, San Jose, Lagonoy, Presentacion, and Caramoan (Camarines Sur); and Virac, Bato, and San Andres (Catanduanes).ย
The innovation was previously showcased at the 25th National Tuna Congress (September 2025) and presented to LGU Fisheries Extension Officers in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro (March 2025). It was also recognized by WWFโPhilippines in November 2024 for its contribution to sustainable fisheries management.
Through this initiative, ParSU continues to champion sustainable marine resource management, strengthen partnerships with global and local stakeholders, and advance innovations that support the UN Sustainable Development Goals 9, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, 14, Life Below Water, and 17, Partnerships for the Goals.ย
