Strengthening its commitment to biodiversity conservation and environmental education, Partido State University's Museo de Isarog, in collaboration with the College of Science, Remontados, and the Symbiotic Biology Society, conducted a Training-Workshop titled "From Field to File: Understanding Tropical Plant Biology Structure, Function and Ecology, and Herbarium Specimen Preparation" yesterday, October 6, 2025, at the ParSU Gymnasium.
Facilitated by University of the Philippines Los Baรฑos Assistant Professor Jonathan "Ethan" O. ย Hernandez, who also served as the resource person, the workshop enhanced participants' competencies in plant identification, sampling protocols, and herbarium specimen preparation, which are vital skills in promoting biodiversity conservation and scientific documentation and are key components of ParSU's commitment to advancing environmental education and research. Mr. Hernandez, a UPLB cum laude graduate and licensed forester, is a researcher with a strong interest in plant ecophysiology, as well as an entrepreneur and content creator focusing on ecosystem-related content โ a platform that has earned him over one million followers on Facebook.
More so, the workshop empowered participants to preserve the region's rich natural heritage by fostering ecological literacy, scientific stewardship, and a deeper appreciation of biodiversity, resonating with the University's mandates of promoting sustainability, resilience, and community engagement through science-based environmental education.
Participated in by ParSU BS Biology and BS Secondary Education Students, and students of Goa National High School, Goa Science High School, among others, the activity aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 15: Life on Land, as it nurtures ecological awareness and supports the preservation of the region's rich natural heritage through scientific inquiry and sustainable practices.ย
