Partido State Universityโs Geology Program under the College of Science enriched student learning through a four-day engagement with three geology experts from the National Institute of Geological Sciences (NIGS), University of the Philippines Diliman, from September 9โ12, 2026, giving BS Geology students and alums opportunities to gain firsthand insights into current research, licensure preparation, and professional practice in the geosciences.
Dr. Betchaida Payot, Dr. Gabriel Theophilus Valera, and Dr. Jillian Aira Gabo-Ratio engaged BS Geology students and ParSU alums preparing for the Geologist Licensure Examination through a scientific forum, thesis consultations, board examination review, and hands-on field geology activities.
The engagement gave undergraduate students direct exposure to current research trends in petrology and economic geology, while helping alums deepen their technical knowledge and sharpen the field skills needed for professional practice.
By bringing specialists from NIGS into the Universityโs learning environment and taking activities beyond the classroom, the initiative connected academic knowledge with current developments and practices in the geosciences. It also demonstrated how academe-to-academe collaboration can create meaningful opportunities for learning, research, and professional development.
Through partnerships that expand access to specialized knowledge and experiential learning, ParSU continues to equip future geologists with the knowledge and skills to understand the Earth, respond to real-world challenges, and contribute their expertise to communities and society.
