Partido State University, through its Center for Sustainable Communities, brought educators and faculty researchers together for the Workshop on ๐๐๐ข๐๐ง๐๐ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐จ๐๐ข๐๐ญ๐ฒ: ๐๐ฎ๐ข๐ฅ๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ข๐ง๐๐๐ฅ๐ ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐๐ฌ ๐๐จ๐ ๐๐ญ๐ก๐๐ซ, held on December 18โ19, 2025 at the RDE Training Hall. ย
The activity served as a venue for open discussion, shared learning, and collaboration, focusing on how research and extension can help turn scientific knowledge that responds to community needs and when people actively take part in shaping solutions. Participants discussed how research and extension can move beyond theory and be used to address real-world concerns in local communities.
During the discussions, Resource Speaker Dr. Leajim A. Villanueva, Regional Coordinator of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants ProgrammeโPhase 7 (SGP-7) under the Foundation for the Philippine Environment, underscored the important role of universities in advancing research and extension, stressing that higher education institutions serve not only as generators of knowledge but also as key partners in enabling communities to adopt science-backed, community-led, and evidence-interventions to improve livelihoods, protect the environment, and address socio-economic concerns.
Through the workshop, ParSU reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that research outputs contribute to local planning tools such as the Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP), making research more accessible, useful for policy-making, and impactful in the long term. Strengthening partnerships among the academe, development institutions, and local communities remains central to the Universityโs development agenda.
At the end of the workshop, participants were expected to draft a concept note that translates their research ideas into proposed community-based projects, reinforcing the application of science in addressing local development concerns.
These initiatives further strengthen ParSUโs contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), supporting inclusive, resilient, and sustainable development in the Partido region and beyond.
