The Partido State University (ParSU) College of Fisheries and Marine Science, in collaboration with the Research, Extension, and Knowledge Management Office, hosted a successful Fish Biodiversity and Coastal Tourism workshop on January 15-16, 2025.
Experts Dr. Ricardo P. Babaran from the University of the Philippines (UP) Visayas and Dr. Gina Alcoriza from the UP Asian Institute of Tourism shared their valuable insights. They facilitated engaging discussions to understand the threats to fish biodiversity in Lagonoy Gulf, brainstorm sustainable fishing practices, and explore innovative coastal tourism development ideas.ย
Participants actively collaborated in generating concept proposals for biodiversity conservation and sustainable tourism, outlining specific proposals for each Partido State University campus. Tinambac will focus on carbon sequestration in mangroves, Caramoan will research seagrass bed carbon sequestration, San Jose will develop coastal tourism initiatives, and Sagnay will create a fish atlas for the Partido fishing grounds.
ParSU remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting sustainable coastal tourism in the region and preserving the marine ecosystems.ย
