The ParSU Statistics Center (PSC) and School of Graduate Studies (SGS) conducted a Webinar-Workshop on Statistical Tools and Analysis for Scientific Research for the Senior High School (SHS) students and faculty of the Ateneo de Naga University (ADNU). The event was initiated by the PSC Director and SGS Faculty Ms. Yumi Vivien V. De Luna and the ADNU SHS Work Immersion Program Coordinator Ms. Sarah May M. Querubin. The activity aimed to promote research and extension services among students and provide learning opportunities to the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) students as they develop their research.
The webinar was formally opened by the ADNU SHS STEM Chairperson Ms. Averil Ayusip. The training proper began with a discussion on sampling designs and classification of variables. Features of the different sampling methods were presented. Situational problems were provided where participants were asked to identify the appropriate sampling method to apply. It was followed by the discussions on the appropriate usage and interpretation of the numerical descriptive measures. Use of statistical software in obtaining those values were demonstrated. Analysis of scientific data were given emphasis in the application of these measures.
The afternoon sessions focused on selected Parametric, non-parametric and correlation methods used for test of hypotheses. Assumptions underlying the use of those statistical tests were given emphasis. Application problems were provided to the participants during their workshop. Selected students were asked to present their outputs. Interaction and open forum were the last part of the webinar. The whole session was facilitated by Ms. De Luna.
The main participants in this activity last January 29, 2021 were the Grade 12 students of ADNU and a number of SHS teachers, for a total of about 310 participants.
