To address Department of Education (DEPED) teachers’ professional development needs, the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) designed the Summer In –Service Training on the Enhancement of Teaching Strategies through 21st Century Skills for the faculty members of Pinaglabanan High School (PHS) held on May 28, 2019 at the PHS, Pinaglabanan, Goa, Camarines Sur.
The training proper began with the lecture on the “Preparation of Action Research & the 21st Century Skills’ Overview,” comprehensively discussed by the first lecturer, Dr. Josefina A. Borromeo, ParSU vice president for academic affairs. Included in her talk were the updates on Education 4.0 and the importance of doing an action research by classroom teachers. Dr. Borromeo further discussed the parts of an action research, then followed by an open forum.
SGS faculty member, Prof. Nora E. Bacares tackled on the topic “Designing an Intensive Reading Lesson,” specifically addressed to language teachers. Prof. Bacares presented a sample lesson on reading which addresses the usual concern of language teachers.
The last lecture, “Statistics for Research” was delivered by Prof. Yumi Vivien de Luna, SGS faculty and director of Center for Statistics (CFS) in ParSU. The afternoon session was used for demonstration teaching by department.
There were a total of 33 participants composed of the Principal I, Mrs. Fe F. Peralta, head teachers, and secondary school teachers of PHS who welcomed the SGS faculty members with a short opening program, highlighted by the thought for the day shared by Mrs. Annie A. Magan.
